About the Society

The Hertfordshire Law Society is the professional body for solicitors practising or living within Hertfordshire. Its objectives are generally to support and to protect the character, status and interests of the members of the profession; to promote honourable practice; to eliminate malpractice and practice by unqualified persons; to consider questions of law and custom and settle disputed points; to decide questions of professional usage or courtesy in conducting legal business; and to advance the interests of the profession. The officers of the Society are elected annually in November at its Annual General Meeting. Day to day administration is handled by a part-time administrator. 

The Society does not itself provide legal advice to members of the public. It has, however, constructed an index of its more than 400 members in private practice to help you find a solicitor with a particular speciality in your locality. For details, see Find a Solicitor on this website.

The Society does not become directly involved in the resolution of any complaints which may arise. It is, however, very concerned to uphold professional standards of client care and sets out guidelines on this on the website.
