JUNIOR
LAWYERS DIVISION
Launched
in January 2008 for junior lawyers across England and Wales, the
JLD is a division of the Law Society with an independent voice.
This division represents all student members of the Law Society
enrolled through the SRA, trainees, and solicitors with up to
five years' active PQE.
The
JLD is all about its community and their needs.
You

website will have local information for the Junior Lawyers Division
and any events or activities that the JLD organise may be advertised
here. Please feel free to contact any of the JLD Committee members
along side, if you have any queries.
Laura Mathew of Debenhams Ottaway Solicitors is a member of the
Council of the Hertfordshire Law Society. As a newly qualified
solicitor she represents the trainee and junior lawyers.
In
addition, the JLD provide an article for the Hertfordshire Law
Society Gazette and law students and trainee solictors can receive

THE
2011/ 2012 COMMITTEE
CHAIR, KATE SHEARER
Kate is a second year trainee solicitor at a St Albans based firm
and acted as Vice-Chair in last year’s committee. Kate wants
to expand the remit of the JLD to include sporting events and
opportunities and wants to see increasing involvement from eligible
law students.
TREASURER & SECRETARY, LIAM COLVILLE
Liam is currently doing the LPC with The College of Law having
finished his Law degree with the Open University earlier this
year. He also works full time as Office Manager at Debenhams Ottaway
Solicitors. This is his third year as Treasurer and Secretary
on the committee.
NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE, LAURA MATHEW
2011/2012 marks Laura's third year as part of the Hertfordshire
JLD committee and she is looking forward to her new role as National
Representative. Laura intends to work passionately to feed the
views of Hertfordshire JLD members to the National level and call
for action where it is required.
MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, HANNAH PALMER
Hannah is delighted to be continuing as Membership and Communication
officer for this year’s committee. Hannah is a second year
trainee in a top 200 St Albans law firm and is looking forward
to meeting all our new members at our up and coming social events.
MARKETING OFFICER, MARIAM AUMEERALLY
Mariam is the senior in house lawyer at Brook Street (UK) Limited,
Prior to joining Brook Street, Mariam worked for Vodafone as a
Corporate Contracts Negotiator gaining commercial and legal experience
whilst negotiating with globally recognised companies. Mariam
aims to provide an in house lawyer perspective to HJLD.
CPD REPRESENTATIVE, DAN LAWRENCE
Dan is working closely with the University of Hertfordshire, and
other organisations to provide members with free, or subsidised
CPD sessions. Dan is a solicitor at a St Albans based firm and
a previous student at Hertfordshire University.
SPONSORSHIP OFFICER, AMREENA ZAIDI
Amreena is a second year trainee at a firm in Hertfordshire. In
her second term, she aims to increase finance for the Committee
which will enable bigger and better events. She hopes this year
is another success for Herts JLD and the members.
STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, LOUISE MOORE
Louise has just started her LPC at the College of Law and is excited
to join the Committee as the Student Communications Officer. Louise
hopes to use her position to help more students benefit from being
a member of HJLD.
SPORTS OFFICER, STUART SPROULE
Stuart is a solicitor in the Corporate Department of SA Law LLP.
As Sports Officer, Stuart is keen to organise cross firm and cross
JLD sporting events as well as sporting activities in promotion
of local charitable causes’
SOCIAL SECRETARY, FAYE WEEDON
Faye is a 1 year PQE solicitor and practices IT/Technology and
general Commercial work at a firm with offices in Hertfordshire
and Bedfordshire. After a successful year of social events last
year, Faye is looking forward to her second term as social secretary
and hopes that this year's HJLD social calendar will be even bigger,
better and more varied that last year's.
